Cougars Fall Just Short of Trojans

Box Score Madison, SD – The University of Minnesota Morris women's basketball team fell to the Dakota State Trojans tonight (Dec. 16) 61-58.

The Cougars continued their tour of NAIA action as they traveled to Madison, SD. Morris played a tough game all night long as they were only down two points going into half time 27-25.

The game play would continue in the second half of the game, with the game on the line the Cougars had a chance to send the game into overtime, but missed the game tying three.

Kendra Wycoff continued her stellar performance with 14 points tonight. This is Wycoff's fourth game with double digit points. Emily Mehr also had 14 points in the game. Jenni Noordmans was the third Cougar in with double digit points, she had 11 points and was tied for the led as both her and Kelsey Erickson finished the night with five assists each.

Mehr is leading the team in points with an average of 14.9, that also puts her in fifth place in the UMAC in scoring in non-conference play. Noordmans is leading the UMAC in field goal percentage (.490) and just behind her is Mehr with (.488). Kelsey Erickson is leading the team with 25 assists and averaging 3.1 per game which places her fourth in assists in the UMAC.

Morris had their second-worst shooting performance has they only shot .393 from the floor. Morris did play smart basketball, though by only committing 11 personal fouls.

The Cougars are now 3-5 on the season as they have one more game before conference play beings against Presentation on Jan. 10.
With winter break upon UMM, the Cougars will take a few weeks off from school to go home, the Cougars will be back in action on Jan. 4 at home against Valley City State. Earlier this season Valley City State was able to defeat Morris 71-63.
