Duluth, Minn. – The Minnesota Morris softball team continued their hot streak today (Apr. 22), splitting with league leading St. Scholastica, winning 1-0 in the first game before falling 8-2 in the second.

Kaitlyn Randall (Concord, Calif.) threw a two-hit masterpiece in the first game to give the Cougars their fifth straight win, and well as earn her seventh victory of the year.

Randall struck out a career high 14 batters as she handed the Saints their first loss of the season in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play.

After the split the Cougars sit at 14-14 on the season, and help cement their spot at second in the league standings with an 11-4 UMAC record. The Saints, meanwhile, drop to 12-1 in league action and 17-11 overall.

The Cougars winning run came in the seventh when Meghan Laird (St. Michael, Minn.) scored on a throwing error by the Saints.

Randall started the second game as well, but allowed six runs and suffering the loss.

The Cougars return to action on Monday (Apr. 25) when they travel to Aberdeen, S.D. to play Martin Luther and Bethany Lutheran in UMAC action. The first pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
