Morris, Minn. – The Minnesota Morris men's soccer team lost a hard fought game today (Sept. 10), suffering a 1-0 setback to visiting to Wisconsin-Superior.

The Yellow Jackets scored 25 minutes into the match for the game's only goal, converting the third of three-straight corner kicks.

The match was as close as the score indicates, with UW-Superior (3-0) holding a slim 11-to-10 lead in shots. The Yellow Jackets out-shot the Cougars 7-ot-4 in the first half, while the Cougars held a 5-to-4 edge in the second half as they worked to tie the game.

Morris (1-2-2) fired four shots on the goal in the match, led by two from Matt Johnson (Monument, Colo.), part of his team high three total shots on the day.

UW-Superior launched five shots on Cougar goalkeeper Tyler Weber (Erie, Colo.), with Weber making four stops. The Yellow Jackets Alberto Rivero got the one that counted, ending a streak of nearly 300 minutes of shutout play for Weber.

Physical play also permeated the match, as 28 total fouls were handed out, including 18 in the second half. Four fouls were called on the Yellow Jackets late in the match, but only once were the Cougars able to capitalize with a shot, but Toby Glaser's (Colorado Springs, Colo.) attempt at 1:13 fell into the hands of the UW-Superior keeper.

The Cougars will look to get back on the winning track on the road next weekend, as they open Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play. On Sept. 16 they play at Crown at 2:00 p.m., and on Sept. 17 they play Northwestern at Mounds View High School at 5:00 p.m.
