Concordia-Moorhead Stats
After opening the season with three straight games on the road, the Minnesota Morris men's soccer team will finally get to play at home, hosting Concordia-Moorhead on Sept. 7 at 5:00 p.m.
The Cougars enter the match, still looking for their first win, at 0-1-2, while Concordia has split their two games on the season and sit at 1-1-0.
Morris went 10-7-4 last season, and finished third in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) with an 8-4-2 league record. Half of their wins came at home, where they went 5-3-2, with each of their ties coming against Minnesota Intercollegiate Conference (MIAC) foes (Saint John's/Macalester).
Concordia went 13-6-1 in 2010, and finished in fourth place on the MIAC with a 6-3-1 record. They were an average team on the road, finishing and even 5-5-1 in 11 games. The Cobbers were recently picked sixth in the MIAC preseason poll. The team scored 52 goals last season, including twice hanging nine on UMAC opponents (Northland/Crown), while also putting up four on then 24th ranked Augsburg. Through two games this season, they have amassed just one goal on 37 shots, while allowing two.
The Cougars will be looking to open up the scoring, having found the net just once on their first three games. They were shutout against both St. John's and Colorado College, with their only goal coming in a 1-1 tie with Kean. Big hitters, Toby Glaser (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Matt Johnson (Monument, Colo.) and Greg Borchers (Westminster, Colo.) have all been held silent, despite averaging over six shots per game between them. The Cougars current leading scorer is Michael Ward (Cottage Grove, Minn.), as he banged home the tying score against Kean on Sept. 4.
In goal, Tyler Weber (Erie, Colo.), is sporting an 0.87 goals against average, with .850 save percentage. He notched his first shutout of the season on Sept. 5 against Colorado College, and already has 17 saves on the year.
