Coming off a win in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) opener earlier in the week, the Minnesota Morris women's basketball team continues on their road trip today (Jan. 13) at Northwestern, before heading to Crown tomorrow (Jan. 14).
Tip-off is set for 5:30 tonight in St Paul, against an Eagle team that is 4-8 on the season, and 1-0 after their UMAC opener. Saturday, the Cougars and Storm start at 3:00 p.m., with the Storm entering the weekend 1-7 overall and 0-1 in league action.
The Cougars enter the weekend at 4-6 overall after a tough non-conference season, but opened UMAC action with an impressive 66-44 win over Presentation on the road Tuesday.
About the Cougars: Looking for their 26th consecutive UMAC win … went 3-0 against Northwestern last season, including a 53-52 win in St. Paul to lock up the UMAC regular season title and an 82-74 win in Morris in the UMAC Tournament Championship game … led in scoring by
Emily Mehr at 13.1 points per game and
Kendra Wycoff at 11.7 points per game … currently 3-1 on the season against NCAA DIII competition, with only loss to St. Benedict in the second game of the season … looking for just second road win of season, after getting their first in the win over Presentation.
About the Eagles: Opened UMAC play with a 74-32 win over Crown, snapping a three-game losing streak … went just 3-8 in the nonconference season … two of three wins came over North Central … just 2-4 at home in the early season … second in the UMAC in scoring defense at just 60.3 points per game … UMAC leader in free throw percentage at .817 … also the best three-point shooting team at .370 … led by three players in double-figures, including Mollie Sir at 14.8, the fifth leading scorer in the conference.
About the Storm: Sitting just 1-7 on the season, with lone win coming at home over Crossroads, 93-21 … currently on a three-game losing streak, including a 74-32 loss to Northwestern in the conference opener … have scored over 50 points just once in seven losses, and no more than 41 lat three losses … went 0-14 in the UMAC last season … led in scoring by Judy Mundt at 16.6 points per game, the second leading scoring in the UMAC.
