Ashland, Wis. – A 29-to-7 run late in the second half turned a 10-point deficit into a 12-point lead tonight (Jan. 27), as the Minnesota Morris women's basketball team came back for a 64-56 road win over Northland.

When Emily Mehr's free throw went through with just 18 seconds left, it gave the Cougars a 63-51 lead, and capped the huge come-from-behind rally. The free throw was the ninth of the final 1:25 for Mehr, as she came up huge again and again for the Cougars (9-7, 5-1 UMAC), going 11-of-12 at the line on her way to a season high 23 points.

After getting tripped up in their last action in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play, Morris needed a win tonight to keep pace in the conference standings. But things didn't look good late, and with 10:59 remaining, Morris saw themselves facing a 44-34 hole, and appeared to be on their way to a second conference loss.

Starting with a lay-up by Mehr, the Cougars quickly rattled off eight straight points, and just over two minutes later, were already back within two.

After the Cougars got the score to even at 49-49 with 4:17 to go, they took their first lead over the LumberJills (7-10, 2-4 UMAC) with 2:13 left on a Kendra Wycoff three pointer.   

It was one of three, three-pointers on the night for Wycoff as part of a 13-point effort, and sent the Cougars to 12-straight as they put the game away in the final minutes.

The first half was back and forth, with the lead changing hands six total times before the Cougars took a 27-23 lead into the locker room. Then in the second, Northland wasted little time taking the game over, getting the lead back just 1:39 in, before running their lead to 10, midway through the half.

It wasn't one of the Cougars' better shooting nights, finishing just 34% (17-of-50), but they made up for it with their best night of the season at the line, going 25-of-28 (.893), which included a perfect 7-of-7 from Alyssa Silva on her way to nine points.

Now with wins in six of their last seven the Cougars will look to make it a weekend sweep tomorrow afternoon, when they take on St. Scholastica at 3:00 p.m.
