Saints Late Goal Sinks Cougars

Box Score MORRIS, Minn. – Minnesota Morris (9-7-1, 11-0 UMAC) took on St. Scholastica (13-3, 11-0 UMAC) on a cloudy, windy and rainy day at Cougar field the end result was a 2-1 defeat for the Cougars. In a physical game the Saints were able to win despite playing down a man after a 65th minute red card.

The Cougars had the first real threat when Ebrima Badgie's shot was mishandled but the follow up shot was blocked by a Saints. After that most if the first 20 minutes was filled with open back and forth play. The Saints jumped up 1-0 in the 22nd minute when Rob Johnson finished off a cross from Joe Watt.

It appeared the Saints' Johnson had made it 2-0 in the 30th minute but the goal was called back for an offsides call.
Jacob Borash had a big save early in the second half to keep it 1-1. The game started to get physical in the second half as the first twenty five minutes saw six yellow cards. The Saints Sean Morgan was sent off in the 65th minute picking up a red card.

Badgie had another chance in the 79th minute but the Scholastica keeper got his right hand to push it wide of the post.

Despite playing down a man the Saints were able to escape with the win thanks to an 89th minute goal from Joe Watt. The ball skipped past the Cougars back four and Watt was able to beat Borash in the top left corner.

Minnesota Morris will play Northland tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. at Cougar Field.
