Cougars Host UMAC Semi Finals

MORRIS, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Morris men's and women's soccer teams will host the UMAC Tournament Semi Finals tomorrow starting at 11:30 a.m. The men will take on Northwestern at 11:30 a.m. followed by the women's matchup against Bethany Lutheran at 2:00 p.m. WATCH LIVE

The men and women both finished in second place in the UMAC this season. The winners will move on to the UMAC Championship on Saturday at the highest remaining seed in the tournament. UMAC Tournament Champions are guaranteed a spot in the NCAA Tournament.

Cougar men faced off with the Northwestern Eagles twice this season, victorious in both matches. On September 28 UMM beat Northwestern 3-0 at Cougar Field. Matthew Bennis, Ravi Butler and Devin Chuba provided the goals that day. Matt Vik assisted on all three goals. The two teams met again this past Saturday at Northwestern with the Cougars edging out a 1-0 win thanks to an own goal in the 21st minute. 

Minnesota Morris is outscoring opponents 35-21 on the year but during UMAC play they are outscoring teams 34-9. Ebrima Badgie has 14 goals and three assists leading the team with 31 points. Devin Chuba has 12 points, five goals and two assists and John Hastings has three goals and four assists totaling 10 points. 

The women have met up with Bethany Lutheran twice, splitting the season series. The Vikings beat UMM on September 22 in Mankato 2-1. At home in Cougar Field the Cougars came away with the 3-0 win.

The Cougars got two goals from Meghan Laird in the win. Justine Wolf is the only player to appear in the score sheet in both matches for the Cougars.

On the year Zoe Bergstrom leads the team with 27 points on eight goals and 11 assists. Kelsi Kolle has six goals and four assists for 16 points. Three players have 15 points, Katie Kestner, Justine Wolf and Meghan Laird
