Box Score MOORHEAD, Minn. – Minnesota Morris (0-2) went on the road for the first time this season traveling to take on Minnesota State Moorhead (3-0) on Friday night. The Dragons picked up the 88-58 win after starting the game hitting seven of their first nine shots from the field.
Morris was led by
Steve Birman who had 13 points on 5-10 shooting on the night.
Evan Reller had eight points and
Ben Hoidal had seven points and seven rebounds.
The Dragons started off on fire going up 17-2 over the first five minutes. The Cougars cut the lead to nine at 23-14 after three straight free throws by Hoidal with 9:49 left in the first half. MSUM went on a 9-0 run to extend their lead to 18 at 34-16 with 6:03 left in the half. Morris was only able to cut the lead to 15 twice before the Dragons went into half with the 47-27 lead.
Minnesota State Moorhead extended their lead to 26 in the first three and half minutes of the second half thanks to an 8-0 run. The Cougars were unable to cut into the lead as the Dragons pulled away late picking up the 88-58 win.
MSUM hit 55.7% from the field in the game as the Cougars struggled shooting 31.0% from the field. Both teams struggled from behind the arc but the Cougars shot 27.8% compared to the Dragons 18.2%. MSU Moorhead outscored UMM 16-5 in points off turnovers.
Minnesota Morris will be back on the court Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. taking on Jamestown College in Jamestown, N. D.
