What better way to wrap up their final season in a Cougar uniform for women's basketball's three seniors, than with a chance to lock up their third straight Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) regular season championship. For Kaila Lindsay, Jenni Noordmans and Alyssa Silva, their careers have been marked by consistent success, racking up championship banners, postseason wins and consecutive berths in the NCAA Tournament.

“There are too many memories to pick from,” Noordmans said. “I think last year – winning the conference championship game to go to nationals – was really huge, really fun. Just being a part of that and being a family, let alone a team.”

For Noordmans and Lindsay, the family formed when they both arrived on campus as freshmen four years ago, with Sylva joining as a transfer last season. After Lindsay and Noordmans helped the Cougars to a 13-1 conference record and the programs first UMAC championship in 2009-10, Sylva showed up a year later as the Cougars ripped through the UMAC to a perfect 14-0 mark, while also winning the postseason tournament to advance to their second straight NCAA Tournament.

“It's sunk in a little bit, being done, but not a whole lot,” Lindsay said. “I don't want it to be done. You've got to accept it when it comes, but I'd rather it not end soon.”

Their run included 29 straight conference wins at one point, while posting a 48-6 UMAC mark the last four seasons, including a 24-2 record at home against league foes. That success makes today all the more bittersweet, remembering all the success shared on Jim Gremmels Court, while at the same time knowing it's coming to an all-to-quick ending.

“It's been a lot of fun, especially with the teammates that I've had,” Sylva said. “We've grown really close together and created great chemistry that has helped us win so many games on this court.”

Big wins have been the standard in their time, so it's only fitting that this final stretch provides yet another opportunity for more.

“It'll be pretty intense,” Noordmans said. “We've got big games coming up, but we've got to focus on one game at a time. My nerves are going to be racing that's for sure. I'll know that in the back of my head it is some of my last few games, and they'll really mean a lot. But I love to have it that way – that they are intense games. And we'll see what we can do.”

See what they can do we shall, and if history tells us anything, we can expect nothing but more success from this accomplished group.
