Clermont, Fla. – The Minnesota Morris softball team dropped two decisions on Mar. 14, with the first game 8-0 to Franklin & Marshall, and the second an 11-2 setback to UMass Boston, with both games ending in five innings.  

In the first game of the doubleheader, Kelsey Draper started her second game of the season, but lasted only 3.1 innings, giving up seven runs on eight hits.

The Cougar offense was silenced by the Diplomats, who only allowed two hits. The Diplomats knocked in a run to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. In the fourth inning, the Diplomat offense fired on all cylinders as they score d six runs on five hits.

With Franklin and Marshall ahead eight runs after five innings, due to NCAA rules the game is officially over. Draper is now 0-2 overall on the season.

In the final game of the trip the Cougars, faced off against the Beacons of UMass Boston, who entered the game with a record of 3-0.

The Beacons started the game shining, when Sue Killilea began the game with a triple. UMass Boston scored four runs on three hits and two errors.  In the top of the second, they would continue where they left off. The Beacons added six more runs on seven hits extending their lead to 10-0.

Mercedes Klimek scored the first Cougar run of the game in the bottom of the second, when she hit her first homerun of the season. Molly Olson doubled in the bottom of the third scoring Shelby Johnsrud. In the top of the fifth the Beacons, tacked on one more run to bring their lead to nine.

Kelli Hamilton recorded her second loss of the season she surrendered nine runs on seven hits in 1.1 innings pitched.
