Morris, Minn. - The Minnesota Morris softball team would see North Central get out to early leads in both of the games of their doubleheader today, but fought their way back to take both games from the Rams, 4-3 and 8-3.
The Cougars allowed all of the Rams scoring in the first 3 innings of both games, in both games the Cougars found themselves trailing 3-1 as they come to the plate to hit in the bottom of the third.
Olson had another big day for the Cougars as she lead the team with five hits in seven trips to the plate, and compiled three RBI's on the day. This is the second time in an many days that she has come up with five hits in a doubleheader series. Olson's big day at the plate helped her go from .460 batting average when the day started to a .486 when the dust cleared after the second game which leads the team by .128. Her defense behind the plate helped both
Mariah Essig, and
Kelli Hamilton pick up wins, which moves Essing to one game over the .500 mark, and Hamilton to just one game under .500.
Essig in game one was just one strike short of her season high mark of nine. After today's performance she has tallied 68 strikeouts which puts her in second place in the school's history of strike outs behind
Kaitlyn Randall in 2011 with 194.
The Cougars will take their six game winning streak, their 8-3 conference mark, and second place tally in the UMAC standings into a tough weekend with a double header against UMAC's third place team Northland (7-3 in UMAC) play this Saturday, and then another doubleheader on Sunday hosting the leading team in the UMAC in St. Scholastica (8-1 in the UMAC).
