Cougars Split Day Two at Pacific Coast Classic

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Claremont, Calf. - The Unversity of Minnesota Morris split their second day at the Pacific Coast Classic losing a heartbreaker 3-2 (19-25, 27-20, 25-17, 20-25, 10-15) to #16 UMass Boston before picking up a 3-1 (25-17, 9-25, 25-22, 25-21) win over North Central (Ill.). Stats for the North Central match will be posted once they are availabe.

Kaylie Clark had 13 kills and 12 digs in the match against UMB, taking a whopping 46 swings. Brita Humphrey added a team high 17 digs as they held UMB to .184 hitting on the day.

UMass Boston took the first set by a score of 25-19, scoring the final eight points of the set after UMM had the 19-17 lead.

In set number two UMM jumped out to a 13-6 lead before UMB cut that lead to just two at 14-12. The lead would grow to 20-15 before UMB came back once more tying the set at 20. UMM staved off one set point at 24-25 before rattling off three straight points to win the set 27-15.

Set three was UMM's despite falling behind 3-0 early. UMM would then outscore UMass Boston 25-17 including a 12-6 run in the middle of the set busting it wide open.

It was a tightly contested fourth set as neither team had much seperation throughout. Three straight points by UMB gave them a 20-16 lead late and UMM was able to catch back up falling 25-20.

In the decisive fifth set UMB jumped out 7-3 and despite UMM getting within one point on two occassions it was UMass Boston who would hold on for the 15-10 win.

Morris will be home on Tuesday as the welcome Macalester to town for a match beginning at 6:00 p.m.
