Box Score NEW ULM, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Morris (8-5, 0-1 UMAC) were swept on Friday night losing 25-19, 25-22, 25-17 to the Martin Luther Knights (6-7, 1-0 UMAC).
The Cougars were held to a season low .010 attacking on the night in the loss. UMM was 27-103 with 26 errors in the loss but stayed in the match thanks to 12 team blocks including ten by Hannah Knot, setting a new career high.
Brooke Decker had 24 assists on the night setting a career high in the match. Leading the offense was
Emily Auch who had six kills.
Kaylie Clark had ten digs to lead the defense.
Martin Luther went out front early in the first set 7-1 and forcing a UMM timeout. Morris cut the lead to 11-9 after a Knights attack error but MLC pushed the lead back to four quickly. The Cougars cut the lead to two late at 21-19 but again the Knights stood their ground and scored four straight to win the set.
The second set started very similar to the first as MLC went up 6-0. Minnesota Morris battled back and took a lead at 7-6 to force MLC to burn a timeout. Most of the set was a back and forth battle until UMM got some breathing room at 20-16. The Knights responded quickly going on a 5-1 run to tie the score at 21 all. After UMM took a 22-21 lead, MLC scored the next four points to take the set 25-22.
It was a battle in the beginning of the third set as neither team had a lead above three until Martin Luther took a 16-12 lead. The Knights never looked back and took the set 25-17.
Minnesota Morris will back in action tomorrow taking on Bethany Lutheran at 1:00 p.m.
