Late Rally Propels Cougars

Box Score ST. PAUL – It looked bleak for the Cougars (12-8-1), who were trailing 1-0 in the 79th minute, However, Minnesota Morris found a way to earn a spot in their seventh straight UMAC Championship with a 2-1 win over Northwestern (10-10-1).
 
Northwestern scored a goal in the 15th minute to take a 1-0 lead over the Cougars. Despite outshooting the Eagles 13-4 in the opening 45 minutes Minnesota Morris trailed at the half. Shane Coleman, the Eagles goalie, had six saves in the first half.
 
Morris was unable to break through until the 79th minute when Shingo Yamane connected with Devin Chuba, who found a way to tie the match. In the 85th minute Ebrima Badgie scored his 10th goal of the year to give UMM the 2-1 lead. Austin Keller had the assist on the Badgie goal. Keller has all 20 points in the final 12 matches of the year.

The Cougars held on for the 2-1 lead in the final five minutes of the match to pick up the win. Minnesota Morris will take on the winner of St. Scholastica and Bethany Lutheran, who play tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. in Duluth.
