Box Score 2 ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. – The Cougars started the UMAC season off right beating Crown 31-0 in the opener before picking up a 16-2 non-conference win in the second game of the double header. Kesley Draper and
Mackenzie Weatherly combined for a no-hitter in the first game and an 11 run fifth inning secured the game two win.
GAME ONE
Minnesota Morris got off to a quick start in game number one scoring eight runs in the first inning, seven of them unearned. After back to back walks to start the game, an error gave UMM the quick 1-0 lead. Another error would follow scoring two more to make it 3-0 right away. Morris would end up with just one hit in the inning but were able to draw five walks. The next inning the Cougars would pick up ten hits and nine runs. The second inning highlight was
Brooke Decker's three run homer. Morris scored twice more in the third inning and 12 more in the fourth to complete the win.
Draper went three innings striking out four and not allowing a hit. Weatherly finished the final two innings to complete the no hitter as she did not allow a hit but did walk one.
From the plate Draper was 4-6 with two RBI, Decker finished 2-5 with four RBI and four runs scored.
Kristy Hoge was 3-4 with four runs scored and three RBI.
GAME TWO
In the second game of the double header Crown battled the Cougars tough until the fifth inning. Morris went up 1-0 in the top of the second as
Sam Hanson scored on a wild pitch after her leadoff triple. In the top of the third, UMM scored twice more to open up a 3-0 lead. Decker scored on a
Cassie Sowada single up the middle, Hanson then again tripled to score Sowada.
Crown would pull within one, scoring twice in the bottom of the third to make it 3-2. Minnesota Morris responded scoring twice, as
Jessica Gordon singled down the left field line to plate
Rikki Beaver and
Laura Lhotka.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Cougars exploded scoring 11 runs on 11 hits. The huge inning was highlighted by
Mandy Allman's two RBI double, Decker's bases clearing three run triple and then another double by Allman to plate two more Cougars.
Minnesota Morris will be back in action on Thursday as they travel to take on Presentation at 11:00 a.m.
