Morris Splits Day 1 of UMAC Crossover

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 NEW ULM, Minn. – On the first day of the UMAC crossover the Cougars earned a split. Minnesota Morris fell 7-4 to St. Scholastica before winning 3-1 over the Northland LumberJills. Kelsey Draper had a homerun in the game one and a two run third inning gave the Cougars the win in game two.
 
Vs. St. Scholastica
 
The Saints scored three runs in the top of the third of inning. A bases loaded walk gave St. Scholastica a 1-0 lead. A single followed to make it 3-0 after the half inning. In the bottom of the second Kristy Hoge singled to right center scoring Kelsey Draper and Sam Hanson on the play.
 
A two run double in the top of third gave the Saints their three run lead back. They would pick up another run in the top of the fifth making it 6-2. Draper hit a two run bomb in the bottom of the fifth cutting the lead back to two but it was as close as the Cougars would get. CSS added an insurance run in the top of the seventh as the Cougars fell 7-4.
 
Vs. Northland
 
Minnesota Morris scored twice in the bottom of the third inning to go up 2-0. Laura Lhotka singled to center driving in Mandy Allman. Brooke Decker singled to left field scoring Hoge, doubling the Cougars lead. In the bottom of the fourth, Allman scored on a passed ball making it 3-0 in favor of Morris.
 
In the bottom of the sixth Northland hit a homerun cutting the lead to 3-1. Hanson, the Cougars pitcher, held the fort picking up the win.
 
The Cougars will now take on Northwestern and North Central tomorrow, as they continue to push for a spot in the UMAC Tournament.
