Box Score 2 NEW ULM, Minn. – For the second straight day Minnesota Morris (16-16, 12-7 UMAC) picked up a split at the UMAC crossover. In the opener the Cougars lost 3-2 in ten innings to Northwestern. In the final game of the crossover the Cougars won 11-6 over North Central.
Vs. Northwestern
Morris got on the board first against Northwestern as
Alex Anderson singled with one out and scored on
Sam Hanson's single to left field. On the play
Molly Olson was cut down at the plate trying to score. It would loom as a big play after the Cougars were unable to push across another run in the regulation. Northwestern tied the game in the bottom of the second on a leadoff homerun.
Minnesota Morris put runners in scoring position in the fifth, eighth and ninth innings but could not capitalize. The Eagles threatened in the sixth and eighth but also found trouble scoring. The Cougars took the lead in the top of the tenth but Northwestern would respond with a pair of their own to take the game 3-2.
Vs. North Central
The Cougars got up early in the game against North Central as
Brooke Decker scored on Olson's single with one out. North Central tied the game up in the bottom of the inning but Morris responded in the top of the second. Morris batted through the lineup in the second pushing across three runs on one hit and three walks. Decker, Anderson and Hanson all had a RBI in the inning.
The lead grew to five in the top of the third as the Cougars pushed across a pair of runs. In the top of the fourth Morris added a pair of runs again in the top of the fourth as the lead grew to 8-1. The Rams picked up a run in the bottom of the fourth but could not get any closer.
Morris put the game away in the top of the seventh pushing across three more runs. The game ended 11-5 as North Central scored three of their own in the bottom of the seventh.
Up next for the Cougars is a doubleheader on Tuesday against Bethany Lutheran in Morris starting at 3:00 p.m.
