Season Preview: Men's Soccer

MORRIS, Minn. - The University of Minnesota, Morris men's soccer team looks contend for another UMAC Championship in 2013. They finished just one goal short of a UMAC title and a chance to head to the NCAA tournament last season. They finished the season with a record of 12-8-2 and a conference record of 11-3-0.
 
Fourth year Head Coach Scott Turnbull welcomes back a majority of his team from 2012. Ebrima Badgie (Sr.), Jacob Borash (So.), John Hastings (Jr.), and WillieWachutka (Jr.) look to help the Cougars get back to the UMAC championship game along with a chance for a bid to the NCAA tournament. Badgie and Borash were both first team UMAC selections last year. Badgie led the team with 33 points on 15 goals and three assists. He finished second in the UMAC in goals scored and fourth in points. Borash was in his first season with the Cougars as the starting goal keeper. He had seven shutouts, averaged 1 goal allowed per match, and finished with a 8-7-1 record. Both Hastings and Wachutka were named to Honorable Mention by the UMAC last season. Hastings finished the year with 12 points and 4 assists on the year. Wachutka was second on the team in minutes played and helped the Cougars defense throughout the season.
 
The Cougars will welcome in 10 new faces to the team and the coaching staff hopes that they can make an immediate impact to the team as well as add depth to a team selected to finish second in the UMAC.
 
The men's soccer team will begin their season at Saint John's University today (August 30, 2013) to take on the Johnnies in Collegeville, Minnesota. The starting time will be 4:30 p.m. The Cougar's first home match will be against Concordia University (Wis.) on September 1, 2013 at 3:00. UMAC play will begin against Northland College on September 20 at the University of Minnesota-Morris.
