Cougars Sweep Away Knights

Box Score MORRIS, Minn. – For the first time in school history the Minnesota Morris Cougars are 2-0 in UMAC play. The Cougars (8-6, 2-0 UMAC) swept Martin Luther (7-7, 1-1 UMAC) 27-25, 25-17, 25-22.
 
Morris was led by Emily Auch and Abby Tietz offensively. Auch had 12 kills and seven digs. Tietz had ten kills and seven digs. Kayley Siekman nearly tied her season high with 20 assists to lead the offense. Mandy Allman added 18 assists. Kaylie Clark led the team with 19 digs.
 
The first set was tied at eight before UMM went on a 6-2 run to take a 14-10 lead. Martin Luther pulled to within one at 17-16 but the Cougars held the lead. Morris had set point at 24-21but the Knights rallied to tie the set at 24. UMM could not close out the set until an attack error gave Morris the 27-25 win.
 
Martin Luther jumped out to a 5-1 lead early in the second set but Morris rallied to tie it at six and then took the lead. Morris would extend their lead to 13-7 midway through the set and push it to as much aseight at 22-14 before closing out the set 25-17.
 
It was close in the third set as well until MLC opened up a 15-11 lead midway through the set. Three straight points by the Cougars pulled them to within one and they would take the lead at 19-18 after kills from Tietz and Auch. Martin Luther tied it at 20 but Morris would not be denied the sweep as they scored three straight and then took the set 25-22.
 
Next up for the Cougars is a road trip north as they will take on Northland and St. Scholastica next weekend.
