Strong Shooting Cuts Down Northland

Box Score MORRIS, Minn. – Minnesota Morris (8-6, 2-1 UMAC) picked up a big 81-41 win over Northland (2-10, 0-3 UMAC) on Saturday afternoon. Brendon Foss had a double-double, including a season high 16 points, all in the first half. He also added 12 rebounds including six offensive boards. Morris had 18 offensive rebounds in the game, Northland had just 14 total rebounds.
 
The hot shooting from Friday night continued into the early portion of Saturday's game, UMM was shooting over 50% halfway through the first half, propelling them to an 18-13 lead. Northland closed the gap to one at 18-17 but the Cougars responded with a 12-0 run, pushing the lead to 13 with 3:57 left in the half. After a UMM timeout, Morris kept pushing, extending the lead to 34-17.

Northland snapped a streak of over seven minutes without field goal with a three pointer with just under 2:30 left in the half but it did not slow the Cougars down. Minnesota Morris would finish the half shooting 56.3% from the field and 4-9 from three in the first half, taking a 44-24 lead into the break.
 
Foss had 16 points and eight rebounds in the opening first half, setting a new season high for points in the process. He was 8-10 from the field in the opening twenty minutes of play. Evan Reller had eight points in the first half as well. The team shot 18-32 from the field and 4-9 from behind the arc.
 
Morris continued to pour it on in the second half, opening the half on a 19-7 run in the first ten minutes of play.  The Cougars did not look back after the halfway point of the second half pulled away, winning 81-41.
 
Reller and Foss would finish with a team high 16 points. RJ Dean and Neil Helgeson each added 10. Ten different Cougars picked up points on Saturday. Joe Roggenbuck had a career high nine points off the bench, shooting 4-6 from the field. Christian Hermansen had his first ever basket as a Cougar late in the second half.

The Cougars will now head on the road for games against Northwestern and North Central next weekend.
