ST. PAUL, Minn. – For the first time since 2008 the Cougars (0-6, 0-5 UMAC) were shutout, falling 33-0 to Northwestern (5-1, 4-1 UMAC) in St. Paul. The last time the Cougars were shut out was October 31, 2008 in a 25-0 loss to Macalester at the Metrodome.
The Morris defense did their job in the first quarter, holding the Eagles scoreless. They forced a pair of punts and allowed just 27 yards in the first 15 minutes of action.
Morris drove the ball to the 13 yard line of the Eagles on the game's opening drive but failed to score. Northwestern would figure out the Cougars late in the first quarter and scored a touchdown on four straight possessions. The Eagles defense was just as productive forcing the Cougars to go three and out on three drives in the first half.
In the second half Northwestern held the Cougars offense to just 88 yards of total offense. Defensively, Morris forced two turnovers in the second half but unfortunately they did not result in any points for the offense.
Donnie Mavencamp had another great day punting the ball, averaging 43.6 yards per punt on seven punts.
