MORRIS, Minn. – Minnesota Morris (9-4-2, 8-1-2 UMAC) scored late in the match and then added a goal in overtime to beat Crown (8-6-2, 6-4-1 UMAC) 3-2. It was a huge three points for the Cougars as they are now six seven points clear of Crown in the standings. A win tomorrow would lock up a home match in the UMAC Tournament.
Willie Wachutka had a good look on net in the in the second minute but the shot went wide. Crown responded with a nice play off a set piece but did not get much on their shot on net and the score stayed at zeros.
Moments later Schuweiler took a nice pass from
Shingo Yamane in the middle of the field from about 23 yards out and struck a great ball into the back of the net. He nearly made it 2-0 in the ninth mute but a nice save from Tanner Fisher kept it 1-0.
Austin Keller had a great chance to score in the 30
th minute but again Fisher was there to keep it a one goal game. The rest of the half was back and forth but no team had anymore great scoring chances.
Yamane nearly had a goal of his own in the 51
st minute but Fisher made his third big save of the match for Crown. The Storm took a lead in the 70
th minute, scoring off a rebound after a save from
Cody Christ.
Crown was close to closing out the win but
Mitchell Boster scored from 30 yards out after a blocked shot to tie the match in the 88
th minute.
The match went into overtime for the second time this season when these two teams meet. It did not take long until
Devin Chuba scored following a turnover in the box. Schuweiler picked up the assist on the goal.
