MORRIS, Minn. – A late lone goal was the difference in the match between Minnesota Morris (12-5-1, 12-0-1 UMAC) and St. Scholastica (12-5-1, 11-1-1 UMAC). In the 87
th minute a cross was deflected in off a Morris defender who was trying to clear the ball off the line.
St. Scholastica had a penalty kick in the 20
th minute after the Cougars committed a penalty in the box. Fortunately for the Cougars the shot sailed high over the net and the match remained scoreless. The Saints would out shoot the Cougars in the first half but did not have any better chances than the penalty shot.
As the match moved into the second half the Saints looked more of a threat to score but the Cougars held them off. The match seemed poised to go into overtime but Kelsey Kehtel beat the Cougar defender to the end line. She would attempt to send the ball across the frame of net and it hit off a defender and sailed into the back of the net.
Minnesota Morris will be the two seed in the UMAC Tournament after the loss but can still clinch a share of the UMAC Championship if they win tomorrow and the Saints lose at Martin Luther.
