MORRIS, Minn. – In the first of two matches on Tuesday night the Cougars (15-5, 7-1 UMAC) beat Crown (4-14, 2-6 UMAC) in three straight sets (25-14, 25-9, 25-20). The Cougars were led by
Addie Vancura who had a season high 12 kills on the afternoon.
Kayley Siekmann,
Brooke Decker and
Justine Flattum all had over ten assists in the victory.
After a slow start to the match and first set, the Cougars scored four straight points to pull ahead 11-6. The Cougars extended that lead to seven at 17-10 before winning the set 25-14.
Cori Becker had four kills and a solo block in the set.
Morris had a quick start to the second set, jumping out to a 10-3 lead. Crown tried to slow the set, calling a timeout, trailing 15-6 but the Cougars still scored six straight points. Minnesota Morris would win the set 25-9 to take a two set to none lead.
The Cougars came out with a different lineup in the third set. They would recover from an early 4-1 deficit to claim a lead at 6-5. Morris led 10-7 before Crown pulled back within one at 10-9. After UMM tried to pull away, taking an 18-12 lead, Crown found away to close the gap to two at 18-16. Crown got as close as one a couple occasions but Morris pulled away late for a 25-20 victory.
