MORRIS, Minn. – After an offensive outburst on Tuesday night the Cougars (1-1) are back in action tonight as they take on Saint John's at 7 p.m. It will be Saint John's (0-1) home opener after falling 70-59 to #15 Wisconsin-Stevens Point last Saturday.
Last season the Cougars defeated the Johnnies thanks to 30 free throws and 12 made three pointers. Minnesota Morris shot 76% from the field in the second half to turn an eight point deficit at the half into a nine point victory.
Cody Emrick led the way with 25 points, including ten made free throws.
Morris only turned the ball over nine times last year, a stat they hope to repeat on Thursday night. On Tuesday against Trinity Bible, the Cougars had just 13 turnovers and including six in the second half.
The Cougars had nine players play at least 15 minutes on the night with
CD Douglas leading the way with 26 minutes. Douglas and
RJ Dean each had 18 points, which led the team. Morris was able to score 27 points off Trinity turnovers on the night, turning many of them into fast break points. UMM held a 21-2 advantage in fast break points on the night.
