MORRIS, Minn. – For the third straight season Minnesota Morris (13-5-2) beat Northwestern (7-12-2) in the UMAC Semi-Final match. The Cougars took down the Eagles 2-0 on Tuesday afternoon on goals from Devin Chuba and Shingo Yamane. The match was physical featuring seven yellow cards and one red card.

Morris had a corner kick in the seventh minute, which was the first chance for either team to put something on net. Michael Schuweiler hit a ball that found its way to the head of John Hastings. The ball rattled off the crossbar but Chuba was there to finish it off with his own head.

The Cougars finished the first half with a 7-2 advantage in shots. Northwestern had two shots on goal but neither one threated to get past Cougar keeper Cody Christ. Schuweiler had a shot on goal as well in the period but could not get much on it and the Northwestern goalie, Turner Main was able to make the save.

The second half was more physical than the first and neither team was able to find an offensive groove. The shot totals were 3-2 in favor of the Cougars at the end of the second forty-five minutes of action. Northwestern pushed for the match tying goal late in the second half but could not break through. In the 88th minute, UMM took advantage of a Northwestern team that was playing more aggressive and Joshua Bartles got the ball to the feet of Yamane. Yamane was able to dribble around UNW's Main and deposited the ball in the back of the net to make secure the victory for UMM.

Minnesota Morris will now head to Duluth to take on St. Scholastica on Saturday in the UMAC Championship match. It will be the eighth straight meeting between the two teams in the UMAC Championship.
