MORRIS, Minn. – Despite several inches of snow on the ground the Minnesota, the Morris softball team opens up their 2014 season tomorrow against Macalester (3-1). They will travel to the Vadnais Heights Dome to take on the Scots in a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
The Cougars return several players that helped them finish second in the UMAC last season. They are picked to finish third this season based on the UMAC Preseason Poll but did receive one first place vote.
First Team All-UMAC stars
Sam Hanson and
Molly Olson will lead a team that has nine starters back from 2013. They also welcome back
Alex Anderson,
Kristy Hoge,
Cassie Sowada and
Mackenzie Weatherly as well as former All-UMAC performer
Jordan Iverson, who did not play last season. The roster also includes six freshmen, who add depth and will fight for playing time.
Tomorrow's doubleheader serves as a good warm up for the Cougars spring trip next week. They will place eight game in a five day stretch against ten different opponents.
