Cougars Split at UMAC Crossover Day 1

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 VADNAIS HEIGHTS, Minn. – Minnesota Morris split the first day of the UMAC crossover, falling 11-4 to Northwestern and winning 22-0 over North Central. The Cougars scored eight runs in the third and fourth inning against the Rams as they pulled away.
 
The Eagles scored first, going up 1-0 thanks to a two out double. Morris responded with a Kristy Hoge sac fly scoring Gina Downie. Northwestern added six runs over the next two innings, taking a 7-1 lead into the bottom of the third. The Cougars picked up a run in the third and fourth innings, cutting the lead to four. Hoge had an RBI in the third and Mandy Allman had a sac fly in the fourth.
 
Northwestern extended their lead to five with three runs in the top of the fifth to put the game out of reach. Meghan Pomeroy had an RBI double in the seventh inning.
 
The offense was the main story in game two, scoring 22 runs in three innings, but the pitching staff allowed just one hit over five innings. After a scoreless first inning, the Cougars scored six runs in the second and eight runs in the third and fourth innings.
 
Jess Gordon, Pomeroy, and Meagan Anderson each had three RBI in the game. Every player that had an at bat scored during the 22-0 run.
 
Hoge went 4-4 with three runs and two RBI on the day. Downie, Hoge and Sam Hanson had a double in the game. Allman and Shelby Peterson had a stolen base in the game.
 
Mackenzie Weatherly earned the win, going three innings and allowing one hit while striking out six. Kelsey Fisher threw two innings, striking out a pair.
