Molly Olson provided the Cougars with a four run cushion that they hung on to.
CHAMPIONSHIP SITE The Cougars struck in the bottom of the first. Gina Downie led off the inning with a single to right field and moved up to second on a scoring error. After a pair of outs,
Sam Hanson hit a ball over the fence in left on the first pitch of the at bat, giving UMM the 2-0 lead.
Weatherly worked well in the circle and did not give up a hit through six innings of work. She got some insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth when
Molly Olson homered to left field, driving in Meghan Pomeroy.
Northwestern broke up the no hitter with their leadoff batter in the seventh. A double followed putting runners on second and third. After a strikeout and a walk the Eagles had the bases loaded with one out. The shutout was over after a one out double and then an RBI ground out made it 4-3 with two outs and a runner on third. Weatherly picked up the complete game win after getting a two out popup to second, ending the rally and the game.
Morris will take on St. Scholastica at 2 p.m. tomorrow. If they win they will take advance to the UMAC Championship on Monday. If they should lose, they will play the winner of the Northwestern and Northland game in a play in game at 4 p.m.
