Box Score 2 ST. PETER, Minn. – Minnesota Morris (8-4) split the second day at the Gustavus Individual falling 3-1 to Gustavus but beating Bethel 3-2.
Emily Auch recorded her 1,000 career dig on the day and now enters the 1,000-1,000 club.
The Cougars were held to .123 hitting in their first game of the day as they fell 25-16, 17-15, 25-21 and 25-20 to Gustavus. Five UMM players had at least six kills, led by
Abby Tietz who had eight. The defense recorded 68 digs, trying to keep the team in the match.
Hannah Terhaar had a season high 21 digs in the four set loss.
In the second set victory Morris had a 70% sideout percentage which helped them maintain control in the set and never let Gustavus back in it. The team had six blocks, led by both
Cori Becker and Tietz who each had four block assists.
Auch was great in the second match of the day recording 20 kills while hitting .321. She also had 17 digs as the Cougars racked up a season high 111 digs. Terhaar set a new career high with 25 digs to lead the team.
Kayley Siekmann had a career high 22 digs in the match to go along with 29 assists.
Marissa Ekness had a double-double with 10 kills and 16 digs.
Morris won the first two sets of the match but dropped sets three and four by a score of 25-23 each time. Despite Bethel having a bit of the momentum heading into the fifth set the Cougars pulled away for a 15-9 set five victory. The seven service aces were a big part of the Cougars five set victory on Saturday afternoon.
