MORRIS, Minn. – The men's soccer team will take to the pitch tomorrow afternoon, looking for their first UMAC win of the season. The Cougars (1-3-2, 0-0-2) tied both matches on the opening weekend. This weekend Northwestern (1-6, 1-1 UMAC) and North Central (0-4, 0-2 UMAC) come to town.
WATCH LIVE After the first week of action in the UMAC, the conference is bunched up. The second and seventh place teams are within three points of each other.
Last Friday Minnesota Morris had a victory snatched away late in the game but they returned the favor the following day. The end result was two ties for Morris and two points in the UMAC table.
Friday will be the first home game for the Cougars since a 1-0 victory against Central on August 30. Three of the next five games for the Cougars will be played in Morris as they start to get into the middle of the UMAC schedule.
Northwestern beat Northland 3-0 and lost to St. Scholastica 6-3 last weekend in St. Paul. North Central lost 13-0 to St. Scholastica and then fell 2-1 in double overtime to Northland.
Last season Minnesota Morris and Northwestern split their season matchup, each winning once, losing once and tied each other once. Northwestern won the first meeting 2-1 in St. Paul. In the regular season finale the two teams tied 1-1 in Morris. The Cougars picked up a 2-1 victory in the UMAC semi-finals just three days after the tie.
Morris beat North Central 3-0 in each meeting last year. The Rams have not beaten the Cougars in any of their four matches between the two teams.
