Box Score MINNEAPOLIS – The Cougars (1-2) dropped a close match 1-0 to Augsburg on Friday night. Minnesota Morris and the Auggies each had their share of chances but the 31
st minute goal proved to be the difference. UMM had ten shots in the game and four shots on goal.
Cody Christ had seven saves in the match for Morris.
Augsburg threatened a few times early on the in the first half, and the Cougars needed a big block to keep the match scoreless through 25 minutes of play. They could not keep Auggies off the board much longer as they scored in the 31
st minute. It was almost 2-0 moments later as Augsburg had a shot off an unfortunate bounce off a Cougar defender, but the shot went wide.
Minnesota Morris put together a few shots late in the first half but could not get a shot to hit the back of the net. The match went into the half time break with the Auggies leading 1-0.
Out of the break Augsburg had a few cracks at the goal but
Cody Christ made a few saves to keep the score 1-0. Morris responded with a couple shots but they went wide of the net each time. The Auggies put together another stretch of offense but the game remained 1-0 past the 65
th minute of play.
Despite a few late shots the Cougars could not get on the board and the final score remained 1-0. Morris will now travel to take on St. Olaf on Sunday at 2 p.m.
