UMM Earns Sweep, Also Swept

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Cougars split on day one of Macalester Invite, much like they split on day one in Colorado last weekend. The day started with a 3-0 loss to Carleton before beating Beloit 3-0 in the night cap. Emily Auch led the way with 21 kills on the day, she also added ten digs.
 
Marissa Ekness, Cori Becker, Abby Tietz and Mikayla Michaletz all had ten kills on the day. Brooke Decker led the team with 24 assists. Kayley Siekmann added 21 assists on the day.  
 
Hannah Terhaar had 18 digs defensively, which was tops on the team. Ekness was close behind with 15 digs of her own.
 
Minnesota Morris was held to just .068 hitting against the Carleton Knights. Auch was the most prolific for the Cougars offensively, hitting .207 with ten kills in the match. Terhaar had 16 digs to try and keep UMM in the match. The Knights won set one 25-18 pulling away late. The Cougars kept it close in set two but fell 25-23. It was mostly all Knights in set three as they finished of the match with a 25-16 set three win.
 
Morris came out on fire in the second match of the day, making quick work Beloit. They out hit them .286 to -.120 in the match. Set one was 25-12 as the Cougars hit .310 and held Beloit to -.222 attacking. The story was similar the rest of the way as UMM won set two 25-14 and set three 25-12. Sixteen different Cougars played in the three set win.
 
Tomorrow UMM will play Macalester at 10 a.m. followed by Wisconsin-Stout at noon.
