MANKATO, Minn. – Minnesota Morris (14-8, 4-0 UMAC) stayed perfect in the UMAC with a 25-15, 25-20, 25-21 sweep over Bethany Lutheran (4-16, 1-4 UMAC) on Saturday afternoon. The Cougar offense hit .318 in the match with just eight errors attacking.
Marissa Ekness had 14 kills in the match.
Abby Tietz added six kills and
Leah Ruter had five kills.
Brooke Decker had 31 assists setting up the offense. Morris held the Vikings to just .124 attacking on the day. Blocking played a big role in holding the Vikings in check.
Alyssa Houselog had five block assists in the match. The team finished with ten total blocks.
Cori Becker had a solo block and three block assists.
Morris sided out at an 80% clip in the first set which helped them build up an early seven point lead at 13-7. The Vikings never recovered and UMM walked away with a 25-15 win.
Bethany jumped out 7-1 early in the second set but Morris did not back down. The Cougars went on a 7-0 in the middle of the set to take the lead from the Vikings. UMM would hold on for a 25-20 set two win.
The third set was competitive right out of the gate, neither team led by more than two until an attack error gave the Cougars a 17-14 lead. It would end up being the biggest play of the game as Morris never let the Vikings back in the set.
