MORRIS, Minn. – The Wisconsin-River Falls Falcons (5-7-1) exploded for three goals in the second half to beat Minnesota Morris (5-6) 5-1 on Sunday afternoon.
Carly Denler scored the lone goal for UMM in the match.
Wisconsin-River Falls had a few early looks on frame but could not make
Torri Jordan work very hard and the game stayed scoreless. The Falcons had a flurry of three shots about 12 minutes into the match but two of them were blocked and the third fell easily into the arms of Jordan.
Lizzy Bruder scored in the 18
th minute to put UWRF up 1-0.
Molly Hancuh broke free in the 32
nd minute, dribbling around Falcon defenders. She took the ball deep in to the box and crossed it to
Carly Denler, who tapped it in the back of the net. Hancuh nearly put the Cougars up 2-1 in the 41
st minute but her shot clanked off the crossbar.
River Falls made it 2-1 in the 45
th minute after Caroline Haen rebounded a blocked shot and deposited the ball in the back of the net.
In the 50
th minute Kayla Windingstad crossed the ball through the six yard box and it was headed home by Abby Soderholm. Windingstad got a goal of her own in the 65
th minute shooting from about 32 yards out and putting it over Jordan.
River Falls got on the board one more time before the final whistle, scoring on a shot from 30 yards out.
Morris will try to rebound next Saturday when they host Crown on Senior day.
