MORRIS, Minn. – Minnesota Morris (19-10, 6-0 UMAC) hosted North Central (10-16, 1-5 UMAC) and Waldorf College (9-24) on Saturday afternoon in the PE Center. Morris picked up a pair of three set victories to pick up their 19
th win of the regular season.
The Cougars allowed just 29 points in their sweep of the Rams. North Central could not figure out the UMM defense, hitting - .070 in the match with just eight kills. Morris gave the Rams 20 points on the afternoon. The score line was 25-11, 25-8, 25-10.
Offensively Minnesota Morris hit .365 in the match, led by
Marissa Ekness who finished with 18 kills while hitting .452.
Abby Tietz had nine kills, no errors and terminated at a .692 clip. The .692 attack percentage was the highest of her career with a minimum of ten attacks.
Brooke Decker finished with 39 assists; she was honored for reaching 2,000 career assists prior to the match.
The match against Waldorf was a little more competitive, with Morris winning 25-18, 25-18, 25-22. The offense had another productive match finishing with a .258 team attack percentage. Waldorf finished the match hitting .148 with 34 kills and 17 errors.
Three Cougars finished with double digit kills in the match, once again led by Ekness, who had 20 kills.
Cori Becker added 11 and Tietz finished ten. The defense finished with 56 digs, led by
Katie Reitsma, who had 18.
Bekah Morris and Decker each added 11 more.
Morris lead for a majority of the first set and were never really challenged by Waldorf in the set. Set two looked like it may be similar to the first with the Cougars holding a 14-7 lead. Waldorf pulled to within three but that was as close as they could get and UMM won 25-18. In the decisive third set the Cougars led 14-6 early but once again Waldorf pulled back to within three. They got as close as 21-20 but Morris held them off and picked up a 25-22 victory.
On Wednesday the Cougars will travel to Northwestern for a matchup that will likely decide the UMAC Regular Season Champion. Both the Cougars and Eagles are 6-0 in conference play with just two matches to go.
