NEW ULM, Minn. – Martin Luther (6-4-1, 3-2-1 UMAC) upended Minnesota Morris (3-9, 3-3 UMAC) for just the fourth time in series history. The match featured 27 total shots and 25 fouls, including four yellow cards.
The match was physical, something visible in the score sheet, with 14 fouls in the opening 45 minutes alone. The first half featured a total of 12 shots, seven from the Cougars, but the score was 0-0 after 45 minutes. Each goal made three saves in the half.
The second half was nearly as physical, a total of 11 fouls were called. In addition, three cards were shown to players, all yellow. Each team had four shots on goal through 90 minutes but the match stayed scoreless.
Early in the overtime period Martin Luther took over near the middle of the field and a nice through ball set up Aaron Swanson with a clear look on frame. Swanson placed the ball around the outstretched arm of
Cody Christ giving the Knights the win in the 93
rd minute.
The Cougars will try to rebound Saturday against Wisconsin-Superior in Superior.
