MORRIS, Minn. – The Cougars softball team opens regular season play tomorrow morning as they take on Macalester at 9 a.m. inside the Irish Sports Dome in Rosemount. It will give the Cougars a chance to see live action before they head south for their annual spring trip in Fort Myers, Fla.
Minnesota Morris is coming off their best year under
Heather Pennie-Roy, winning 20 games. They have been selected to finish second in the UMAC by the conference coaches. Morris returns All-Conference players
Molly Olson,
Mackenzie Weatherly,
Gina Downie and
Meghan Pomeroy.
The Cougars will turn to some younger players in 2014 as they look to continue their upward trend and set their sights on UMAC Championship.
Macalester is also coming off a 20 win season in the MIAC. They have two returning All-MIAC players who can do some damage from the plate. They also return their top two pitchers from last season.
The Cougars and Scots opened up regular season play last year as well with the Scots earning a sweep.
