FT. MYERS, Fla. – The Cougars (3-2) dropped another tough one on Wednesday falling 5-4 to the Coast Guard Academy.
Eric Terres had two hits and a run scored.
Evan Ellingworth had two runs batted in.
Jake Schmitz scored twice for Minnesota Morris.
Coast Guard went up 2-0 early after a run in the first and a run in the second. In the meantime the Cougars only managed one hit through the first five innings. CGA tacked on another run in the top of the sixth to go up 3-0.
The Morris offense would strike back in the bottom of the sixth pushing three runs across the plate. A one out single by Terres started the rally; he would score on a fielder's choice off the bat of
Chandler Erickson. Scmitz would score along with
Kylan Hill on a single by Ellingworth.
After a scoreless seventh inning the Coast Guard went ahead 5-3 thanks to a pair of walks and a pair of singles. Morris tried to answer in the bottom half of the inning taking advantage of a leadoff error. Hill drove in Schmitz before giving way to a pinch runner.
Michael Dockendorf would end up stranded on third as the inning ended. Morris got a runner on in the bottom of the ninth but couldn't score.
