FT. MYERS, Fla. – Minnesota Morris (3-3) was held in check during a 7-0 loss to Keystone College (2-0) on Thursday afternoon. The Cougars scattered six hits in the game, all by different players. Keystone scored seven runs, but it took till the eighth inning to break the game open.
Todd Woelfel pitched a strong eight innings allowing five earned runs while striking out three. Morris put a runner on second in the first inning but a double play ended the threat. Morris had a runner on in the second as well but couldn't get a big hit. The Giants would plate two in the bottom of the third to take a lead.
The Cougars managed a single in three straight innings from the fifth through the seventh but trailed 4-0 at the end of seven complete. Morris had runners on first and second with two outs as they tried to cut into the lead but a fielder's choice ended the threat. Keystone busted it open in the eighth with a pinch hit three run homer to make it 7-0, which is where the game would end.
Morris has an off day before a pair of games on Saturday morning.
