MORRIS, Minn. – A late inning rally allowed Northwestern (16-13, 10-4 UMAC) to earn a 4-3 win in the series finale against Minnesota Morris (11-19, 5-9 UMAC) on Saturday. The Cougars had nine hits in the game, two each by
Christian Korlath and
Willie Fust.
The Cougars scored first, pushing a run across in the bottom of the third.
Ryan Wynn singled and then scored on a two out single by
Jackson Gessell. The game stayed a 1-0 until Northwestern came to bat in the top of the sixth. The Eagles would score a pair of runs on three hits, taking a one run lead. Morris tied the game in the bottom of the inning when Fust singled in
Donnie Mavencamp.
In the seventh inning
Jake Schmitz singled in
Eric Terres, who had reached on an error, giving the Cougars a 3-2 lead. Unfortunately in the top of the eighth the Eagles scored twice and took a 4-3 lead. Minnesota Morris was unable to get anything going in the final two innings of play, falling 4-3.
The doubleheader scheduled with Macalester for tomorrow has been canceled. No makeup date has been announced.
