ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – Minnesota Morris (4-2) had their four match winning streak busted on Tuesday falling in straight sets to St. Benedict (2-2) by a scoreline of 25-15, 25-17, 25-19. The Blazers did a great job slowing the Morris offense, allowing them to hit just .016 in the match.
Morris was held to just .021 hitting in the first set as St. Ben's ran away with it. St. Ben's was not great offensively hitting just in that first set. The Blazers jumped on UMM right away in the first, scoring ten of the first 12 points in the match. Morris never got closer than seven the rest of the way before falling 25-15.
The Blazers blitzed the Cougars early in the second set as well jumping out to a 7-2 lead. Morris recovered briefly to tie the set at 10 but St. Ben's countered with a 7-1 run. UMM never got closer than four and CSB went on to win by a score of 25-17.
It was another quick start for St. Ben's in the third set, jumping out to a 6-1 lead over Morris. The Cougars could not recover, falling by a score of 25-19.
Katie Reitsma led the defense with 21 digs.
Brooke Decker was held to a season low 22 assists in the loss.
Abby Tietz added 11 kills and led the team with an attack percentage of .182. Ekness had ten kills on 51 swings. No other Cougar had more than two kills on the night. Morris had 25 attack errors on Tuesday evening.
Next up for the Cougars will be a trip Minneapolis this weekend to compete in a tournament at Augsburg College.
