Box Score ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - Playing a man down for the final 20 minutes, the Minnesota Morris men's soccer team rallied to tie Bethel late, but surrendered the go-ahead goal in the final seconds in dropping a non-conference road contest.
"I am very proud of the effort displayed by the boys this afternoon," said head coach
Scott Turnbull. "They played an inspired second half while being a man down. A tie would have been a just result."
It was an uphill battle for the Cougars even before they were a man down as they trailed the Royals 2-0 at halftime.
Their comeback attempt started early in the second half.
Austin Keller's goal in the 52nd minute off a feed from
Joshua Bartels pulled the Cougars within 2-1. UMM lost a man in the 69th minute, but fought and clawed their way back to a tie.
Alexi Harmon's first goal of the season in the 83rd minute, thanks to another assist from Bartels, knotted the game at 2.
In the game's final seconds, Bethel was able to convert on a penalty kick to escape with the 3-2 win.
Minnesota Morris (2-10) returns back to UMAC play Saturday at Crown.
