NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Minnesota Morris (6-13) snapped an eight game losing streak with an emphatic 18-6 win over Carleton (7-15) in the first game of a doubleheader. The Cougars fell 5-2 in the game two in Northfield.
The Cougars started fast, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. An error on a fielder's choice allowed a pair of runs to score.
Connor Spindler received a RBI on the play. Morris then busted out for six runs in the second inning. Three hits and three errors helped the Cougars take a 9-0 lead.

Connor Spindler drove in runs in the second.
Morris scored three more times in the third inning. It started with a homer from
Willie Fust, his first career homerun.
Donnie Mavencamp and
Chandler Erickson each drove in runs during the inning. Carleton responded with three runs of their own but still trailed by eight runs. After a scoreless fourth inning Morris would put together another six run inning in the fifth. The scoring was started with a two run double by Gessell, scoring Erickson and
Trent Johnson. Mavencamp kept the rally going with a double to left center, scoring Gessell.
Thomas Eckstein and Blair Fairbanks each had RBI doubles to make it 16-3. The final run of the inning scored on a single from
Matt Flock.
After three Knights scored in the fifth; Morris kept them silent in the final two innings. Minnesota Morris scored a run in the seventh to win 18-6. The Cougars scored 18 runs on 20 hits, their most in both categories this season.
The offenses for both teams were a little less potent in the second game of the day. Carleton scored two first inning runs and Morris could never fully recover. A single by
Bryce Jergenson in the second brought Morris within one. The Knights countered with a run in the bottom of the inning, regaining their two run lead.
Two scoreless innings followed before Carleton scored twice in the bottom of the fifth to go up 5-1. The Cougars would tack on a run in the seventh but it was not enough.
On Tuesday the Cougars return to the field for a game with Concordia-Moorhead.
