MORRIS, Minn. - Minnesota Morris'
Michael Dockendorf flirted with perfection as he allowed only one base-hit in a 7-0 complete game win Friday over Maranatha Baptist at the Cougar Diamond.
The senior hurler baffled Sabercat batters from the start. He retired Maranatha in order in the first with two batters striking out looking. He would do the same in the second. In the third and fourth innings, shortstop
Zach Kuefler kept the Sabercats off the bases by collecting five of the six putouts, including three straight pop ups in the fourth.
Dockendorf retired the first 16 batters he faced before giving up a one-out single in the sixth. That would prove to be the only batter to reach as he would go on to strikeout nine to get the complete game, shutout victory.
The only run support Dockendorf would need came in the second.
Donnie Mavencamp started the frame with a double to center.
Blaise Fairbanks followed with a single to right then
Connor Spindler, the hero from Wednesday's game, brought them all home with a 3-run blast over the left field fence. The Cougars would add another run to make it 4-0 after two.
Mavencamp and Fairbanks each had three hits as part of the Cougar 10-hit attack.
Minnesota Morris (4-10) and Maranatha Baptist return to the Cougar Diamond Saturday for a doubleheader starting at noon.
