Hannan sets saves mark; Cougars split with BLC

MORRIS, Minn. - Seven of Minnesota Morris' nine wins this season have been by three runs or less. Six of those wins ended with Tyler Hannan saves. His save today in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday against Bethany Lutheran gave him the Minnesota Morris single-season save record.

With Minnesota Morris leading 3-2 in the seventh inning, Hannan entered in a two-out, bases-loaded situation. He fell behind Bethany's Trent Saharek 3-1, but fought back to strike him out to preserve the lead.

Hannan retired the Vikings in order in the eighth. Bethany got the tying run in scoring position in the ninth before Hannan got the final out on a fielder's choice grounder.

The Cougars had to comeback to give Hannan a save opportunity. Bethany scored twice in the third to break a scoreless tie. Minnesota Morris countered with a run in their half of the third without the benefit of a hit.

UMM scored twice in the fourth to take the lead. Evan Ellingworth and Donnie Mavencamp had successive singles. The Cougars tied the game on an error then gained a 3-2 edge on a bases-loaded single from Trent Johnson.

Michael Dockendorf earned the win on the mound allowing only one earned run through 6.2 innings. Chandler Erickson went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the opener.

Bethany claimed the second game, 7-3.

Minnesota Morris (9-17, 3-3 in UMAC) remains at home to face Martin Luther for a UMAC doubleheader Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.
