WATERTOWN, Minn. - Coming off their home doubleheader sweep of Martin Luther on Tuesday, the Minnesota Morris baseball team looked to keep their momentum going against Crown Friday for a UMAC doubleheader. The Cougars were able to make it four wins in a row with 6-2 and 4-0 wins over the Storm.
In the opener, after two scoreless innings, the Cougars put up a crooked number in the third. UMM loaded the bases in front of an
Evan Ellingworth RBI single to start the scoring. Two batters later,
Blaise Fairbanks drove in another run to score
Jackson Gessell to make it 3-0 Cougars.
That was all the run support starting pitcher
Michael Dockendorf would need as he struck out 12 to claim the complete game victory.
The Cougars were able to give Dockendorf some insurance runs in the ninth though scoring three times on their way to the 4-run win.
In the nightcap,
Brady Jergenson and
Lucas Luedtke combined for the shutout win on the mound. Jergenson threw the first four innings and allowed two hits while striking out four. Luedtke pitched the final five innings and struck out nine while allowing just one hit.
Chandler Erickson led off the game with a single to right center. After advancing to second,
Connor Spindler followed with a single to right to score Erickson. Gessell followed with a deep shot over the left field fence for a 2-run home run to make it 3-0.
Spindler went 3-for-4 in the second game and went 5-for-7 on the day. Gessell and
Zach Kuefler each had two hits.
Minnesota Morris (13-17, 7-3 in UMAC) continues UMAC play Saturday at North Central.
