AUBURNDALE, Fla. - Minnesota Morris were victims of a late rally in the second game of a doubleheader, losing 7-6 to Curry in the final at-bat. The Cougars dropped the opener of the baseball twin-bill, 12-2.
In the nightcap, the Cougars got on the board first playing some small ball.
Bryce Jergenson and
Zach Kuefler led off the game with infield hits and each advanced a base on a passed ball.
Jackson Gessell picked up on an RBI on a grounder to score Jergenson.Â
Curry tied the game in the third, but the Cougars countered with two in the fourth to retake the lead.
Brady Jergenson led off the frame with a double to left. Two batters later,
Blake Haugen drove him in with a two-bagger down the left field line. Haugen would later cross the plate on a
Mac Brink triple to put the Cougars up 3-1.
Bryce Jergenson pitched five strong innings allowing only one Curry run on five hits.
Curry started their rally in the sixth by scoring four times to take a 5-3 lead. The Cougars countered with their own rally in the seventh with three runs to take a 6-5 edge.
Thomas Eckstein singled to lead off the inning. Brink walked and
Bryce Jergenson singled to load the bases. Kuefler drove in a two with a game-tying double and Gessell followed with another double to plate Jergenson and give the Cougars the lead.
Curry would score two in the bottom of the seventh though to take the win away from the Cougars.
Kuefler went 3-for-4. Gessell and
Bryce Jergenson each had two hits.
Minnesota Morris (1-6) is off tomorrow before getting back to the Florida diamond Friday against Olivet.
