WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Minnesota Morris took a late lead in the opener against Bard College, but dropped a one-run decision. They then fell in the nightcap as well in a baseball doubleheader at the Central Florida Invitational.
Game 1 - Bard 10, UMM 9
The Cougars capitalized on Bard errors to score three unearned runs in the third to take a 3-2 lead. They added five more runs in the sixth to take an 8-6 edge.
Nick Peterson hit the Cougars' first home run of the season to start the rally. Brothers Brady and
Bryce Jergenson sandwiched RBI doubles around a
Mac Brink run-producing triple. Bard scored four times in the seventh to reclaim a 10-8 lead. UMM did not go away quietly though. After
Mitch Baumann reached to start the inning,
Jackson Gessell brought him home with an RBI double to make it 10-9. The Cougars would have runners on first and second with one out, but Bard retired the final two batters to preserve the win.
Brady Jergenson went 3-for-4. Gessell, Peterson, and Baumann each had two hits.Â
Game 2 - Bard 8, UMM 2
Bryce Jergenson had a pair of hits, including a triple. Peterson delivered an RBI single. Brink allowed just one run in three innings of relief.
Minnesota Morris (1-10) wraps up Florida play Monday morning against Bowdoin.
